Application Process

1. Surface Preparation

Cleaning: The surface to be applied should be clean and sound, free from any kind of contamination, dirt, loose materials, or debris. Thoroughly wire brush the surface to remove all loose particles.

Dust Removal: Clean the dust using an air compressor or by water jetting to ensure complete removal of contaminants. Proper cleaning is critical for adhesion.

Oil & Grease Removal: Any oil and grease must be completely removed using appropriate degreasing solvents. This ensures proper bonding of the waterproofing coating.

Surface Repairs: Any damaged surface must be repaired using crack fillers or polymer modified repair mortar like Berger Advanced Latex Plus. Fill all cracks, holes, and damaged areas properly.

Leak Prevention: Take care of leakages in concealed pipes or all other sources of water prior to application of the product. Address all water sources before waterproofing.

Plaster Condition: Very weak plaster must be replaced with a new one to ensure a sound substrate. Do not attempt to waterproof over failing substrates.

Pre-Wetting: Finally, the substrate must be properly pre-wetted to achieve a saturated surface-dry (SSD) condition. The surface should be damp but with no standing water or free moisture.

2. Mixing Procedure

CRITICAL – Proper Sequence: Always add DampStop powder to clean water. Never add water to powder—this is essential for proper consistency.

Mixing Equipment: Mix constantly with a stirrer using a pneumatic or electric power tool (minimum 1kW) at slow speed of 250-300 RPM. High-speed mixing is not recommended.

Mixing Duration: Continue mixing for 3-5 minutes to achieve a homogeneous, putty-like consistency. Ensure no lumps remain and the mixture is completely uniform.

Dilution Ratios by Application:
Self-Priming Coat: Water dilution 1:1 (1 part DampStop to 1 part water)
First Putty Coat: Water dilution 3:1 (3 parts DampStop to 1 part water)
Second Putty Coat: Water dilution 3:1 (3 parts DampStop to 1 part water)

Important: Prepare only the quantity that can be applied within the working time. Do not mix more than can be used in one session as the material will begin to set.

3. Application Steps

Step 1 – Self-Priming Coat (1:1 dilution):
Apply using a paint brush on the properly prepared bare plaster/concrete surface. This coat penetrates the substrate and provides the base for subsequent coats. Allow to dry for 4-6 hours at 30°C before proceeding.

Step 2 – First Putty Coat (3:1 dilution):
Apply using putty knife or trowel in a uniform layer. This coat fills surface irregularities and begins building the waterproof barrier. Allow to dry for 4-6 hours at 30°C before proceeding.

Step 3 – Second Putty Coat (3:1 dilution):
Apply the final coat using putty knife or trowel. Level the applied area properly with the putty application tool to achieve a smooth, uniform finish. Allow to dry for 4-6 hours at 30°C before top coating.

Critical Areas: Pay extra attention to corners, joints, penetrations, and areas prone to water accumulation. Additional coats may be applied in these vulnerable areas.

Severe Dampness: In cases of severe dampness or high water pressure conditions, apply an additional primer coat and putty coat for enhanced protection.

4. Top Coat Application (Optional)

After DampStop has fully cured, apply finish coats as desired:
– Interior walls: Apply 2 coats of interior emulsion paint
– Exterior walls: Apply recommended exterior emulsion or texture coating

The waterproofed surface provides an excellent base for paint adhesion and significantly extends paint life.

5. Curing and Protection

Drying Time: Allow each coat to dry for 4-6 hours at 30°C before applying the next coat. Drying times may vary with ambient temperature and humidity.

Complete Curing: Full waterproofing performance develops over 7-14 days as the crystalline technology activates with substrate moisture.

Weather Protection: Protect freshly applied coating from rain or water exposure for at least 24 hours. Avoid application when rain is expected.

Final Inspection: After curing, inspect for uniformity of coverage. Touch up any missed spots or thin areas before applying final finish coats.

Usage Precautions & Guidelines

Critical Don’ts

Do NOT add extra water for dilution beyond the specified ratios. Over-dilution compromises waterproofing effectiveness and reduces strength.

Do NOT add any powder material externally. The product is precisely formulated and adding materials will affect performance.

Always add powder to liquid, vice-versa NOT recommended. Wrong sequence creates lumps and prevents proper mixing.

Strictly NOT recommended to use in cement slurry. DampStop is designed as a standalone waterproofing coating, not an additive.

Do NOT apply on surfaces with active water leakage. All water sources must be stopped before waterproofing application.

Application Best Practices

– Apply in temperatures between 10°C and 40°C for optimal curing
