Application Process

1. Surface Preparation

Critical First Step: The surface to be applied should be clean, sound, and free from any kind of contamination, dirt, loose materials, or debris.

Cleaning: Thoroughly wire brush the surface to remove all loose particles. Clean the dust using an air compressor or by water jetting to ensure complete removal of contaminants.

Oil & Grease Removal: Any oil and grease must be completely removed using appropriate degreasing solvents. This is crucial for proper adhesion.

Surface Repairs: Any damaged surface must be repaired using crack fillers or polymer modified repair mortar like Berger Advanced Latex Plus. Fill all cracks, holes, and damaged areas properly.

Leak Prevention: Take care of leakages in concealed pipes or all other sources of water prior to application of the product. Address all water sources before waterproofing.

Plaster Condition: Very weak plaster must be replaced with a new one to ensure a sound substrate for waterproofing.

Pre-Wetting: Finally, the substrate must be properly pre-wetted to achieve a saturated surface-dry (SSD) condition. The surface should be damp but with no standing water.

2. Mixing

Mixing Procedure: Add Damp Shield Elasto 10 to clean water and start mixing. Do not add water to the product—always add product to water.

Mixing Equipment: Mix constantly with a stirrer using a pneumatic or electric power tool (minimum 1kw) at slow speed of 250-300 rpm.

Mixing Duration: Continue mixing for 3-5 minutes to achieve a homogeneous, putty-like consistency. Ensure no lumps remain.

Dilution Ratios:
– For Vertical Application (Walls): Use recommended dilution as per product data sheet
– For Horizontal Application (Roofs/Terraces): Use proper ratio available in PDS (Product Data Sheet)
– For Barrier Coat: 40% dilution is typical (verify with PDS for specific application)

Important: Prepare only the quantity that can be applied within the working time. Do not mix more than can be used in one session.

3. Product Application

Application Tools: Apply using brush or roller depending on surface type and area. For large areas, roller application is more efficient.

First Coat: Apply the first coat evenly ensuring complete coverage of the entire surface. Pay special attention to corners, edges, and joints. Allow to dry thoroughly.

Drying Time: Allow adequate drying time between coats (typically 4-6 hours depending on weather conditions).

Second Coat: Apply the second coat in perpendicular direction to the first coat for complete coverage and maximum waterproofing effectiveness.

Coat Thickness: Apply sufficient coats to achieve the recommended DFT of up to 130 microns for optimal barrier coat performance.

Critical Areas: Pay extra attention to areas prone to water accumulation, corners, junctions, and penetrations. Additional coats may be applied in these areas.

Working Conditions: Apply when ambient temperature is between 10°C and 40°C. Avoid application during rain or in excessively humid conditions.

4. Self-Priming Application (Optional)

When properly diluted, Damp Shield Elasto 10 can double as a primer, eliminating the need for separate primer coats and simplifying the application process. Follow dilution recommendations in the Product Data Sheet for primer application.

5. Top Coat Application (Optional)

After Damp Shield Elasto 10 has fully cured, apply exterior emulsion top coats (such as 2 coats of Berger Long Life or other recommended exterior paints) for complete protection and aesthetic finish.

6. Curing and Protection

Curing Time: Allow the coating to cure completely before exposing to water or foot traffic. Full curing may take 3-7 days depending on ambient conditions.

Weather Protection: Protect freshly applied coating from rain for at least 24 hours. If rain is expected, postpone application.

Final Inspection: After curing, inspect for any missed spots, pinholes, or thin areas. Touch up as necessary before applying top coats.
