Application Process

1. Surface Preparation

Sanding: Sand the wooden substrate with Water Paper No. 120 followed by Water Paper No. 150 to create a smooth, even surface. Sand along the grain direction for best results.

Cleaning: Remove all sanding dust thoroughly using a clean, dry cloth or vacuum. Ensure the surface is completely clean, dry, and free from grease, wax, polish, and other contaminants.

Surface Condition: The wood must be properly dried and cured. New wood should have moisture content below 12-15% for optimal results.

2. Product Preparation

Mixing: Open the lid and stir the product thoroughly to ensure uniform consistency. The one-component (1K) system requires no mixing with hardeners or catalysts.

Thinning (If Required): If necessary, GP thinner can be added to adjust viscosity for easier application. Generally, the product can be applied directly without thinning.

3. Application – Exterior Clear (Matt 446 / Gloss 438)

Application Method: Apply WoodKeeper 1K PU Exterior by brush or cloth. Brush application ensures even coverage and professional finish.

First Coat: Apply the first coat evenly along the wood grain. Ensure uniform spreading without over-application or pooling.

Drying Time: Allow inter-coating interval of 6-8 hours between coats. Drying time may vary depending on temperature and humidity conditions.

Subsequent Coats: Apply a minimum of 2 coats for optimal performance. Additional coats can be applied for enhanced protection and depth of finish.

4. Application – Interior Clear (074)

Application Method: Apply WoodKeeper 1K PU Interior directly by brush or cloth.

Versatile Use: Can serve as both base coat and topcoat. Multiple coats can be applied for added durability and enhanced gloss.

Inter-Coat Interval: Follow the same 6-8 hour drying interval between coats.

5. Final Finishing

Quality Check: Inspect the finish under good lighting. The surface should display uniform appearance with the natural wood grain clearly visible through the protective coating.

Light Sanding (Optional): For ultra-smooth finish, lightly sand between coats with fine water paper (320-400 grit) and remove all dust before applying the next coat.

6. Curing & Post-Application Care

Allow the final coat to cure completely (typically 24-48 hours) before subjecting to normal use. For full hardness and maximum durability, allow 7 days of curing time. Avoid water exposure during the curing period.

7. Cleaning

Clean brushes and equipment immediately after use with appropriate thinner. Dispose of waste materials responsibly according to local regulations. Do not pour leftover product down drains.

8. Safety & Storage

Safety: Ensure adequate ventilation during application. Avoid direct contact with skin and eyes. If contact occurs, wash immediately with plenty of water and seek medical attention if irritation persists. Keep away from ignition sources as the product is flammable. Keep out of reach of children.

Storage: Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, heat sources, and ignition sources. Keep containers tightly sealed when not in use to prevent skinning and drying. Do not freeze. Properly stored, the product has a shelf life of 36 months.
