Application Process

1. Surface Preparation

For Wood Surfaces: Ensure the surface is clean, dry, and free from dust, grease, wax, and polish. Sand the surface smooth along the grain direction. Remove all sanding dust. For new wood, apply suitable wood primer (such as Berger Wood Primer) and allow to dry completely.

For Metal Surfaces: Remove all rust, mill scale, grease, and contaminants using wire brush, sandpaper, or appropriate cleaning methods. For ferrous metals, apply suitable anti-corrosive metal primer (such as Berger Red Oxide Primer or Zinc Chromate Primer). For galvanized surfaces, use Berger Galvanized Metal Primer. Allow primer to dry completely.

For Previously Painted Surfaces: Remove all loose, flaking, or chalking paint using scraper and sandpaper. Clean thoroughly to remove dust and grease. Sand smooth and dust off. Fill any holes or imperfections with suitable filler and sand smooth.

2. Protection of Adjacent Areas

Cover floors, furniture, glass panels, and other surfaces with protective sheets or masking tape to prevent paint spillage and splatter.

3. Paint Mixing & Preparation

Stir the enamel thoroughly before use to ensure uniform consistency and even color distribution. Thin the enamel if necessary using mineral turpentine or white spirit (typically 10-15% for brush application, up to 20-25% for spray application). Strain the material through a fine mesh sieve to remove any lumps or skin formation.

4. Priming (Essential)

Apply appropriate primer based on substrate:

  • Wood: Berger Wood Primer or suitable wood primer
  • Ferrous Metal: Berger Red Oxide Primer or Zinc Chromate Primer
  • Galvanized Metal: Berger Galvanized Metal Primer
  • Aluminum: Suitable etch primer

Allow primer to dry completely (typically 6-8 hours) before applying enamel topcoat.

5. Paint Application

Application Methods: Apply using high-quality natural bristle brush, foam roller, or spray equipment. For best gloss results, brush application is recommended.

Brush Application: Use smooth, even strokes in one direction. Work the enamel well into the surface but avoid over-brushing, which can reduce gloss. Lay off lightly in the direction of the grain (for wood) or length (for metal).

First Coat: Apply the first coat evenly with uniform coverage. Ensure proper wet film thickness for good hiding power. Allow 6-8 hours drying time between coats.

6. Final Finishing

Second Coat: Lightly sand the first coat with fine sandpaper (320-400 grit) if necessary to remove any dust particles or imperfections. Dust off thoroughly. Apply the second coat uniformly to achieve optimum color depth and the characteristic mirror-like gloss finish.

Quality Check: Inspect under good lighting for uniform gloss, complete coverage, and smooth finish. Touch up any areas as needed while paint is still workable.

7. Drying & Curing

Allow adequate drying time between coats (6-8 hours minimum). For complete hardening and maximum durability, allow 48-72 hours before subjecting to heavy use or cleaning. Ensure good ventilation during application and drying.

8. Cleaning & Maintenance

Clean brushes and equipment immediately after use with mineral turpentine or white spirit. Once fully cured, the painted surface can be cleaned with a soft cloth and mild detergent solution. The glossy finish allows easy removal of dirt and grime.

9. Safety & Storage

Safety: Use in well-ventilated areas. Enamel paint contains solvents – avoid breathing vapors and ensure adequate air circulation. Avoid contact with eyes and skin. If contact occurs, wash immediately with plenty of water and seek medical attention if irritation persists. Keep away from heat, sparks, and open flames. Keep out of reach of children.

Storage: Store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated place away from direct sunlight and heat sources. Keep container tightly closed when not in use. Avoid freezing temperatures. Dispose of empty containers and waste material responsibly according to local regulations.
