Application Process

1. Surface Preparation

For Fresh/New Surfaces: Ensure the surface is clean, dry, and free from dust, grease, or contaminants. Allow proper curing time for new plaster.

For Previously Painted Surfaces: Strip all old paint from the surface using sandpaper (80/100 grit) and wipe clean. Remove all flakes and loose particles. Fill all cracks, pores, and dents by applying thin coats of suitable wall putty (no dilution needed) to create an ultra-smooth base. Let the putty dry overnight. Sand the surface smooth and remove all dust. Cover furniture, switchboards, and other elements with plastic sheets for protection.

2. Base Coat Application

Apply a recommended primer suitable for the surface type (wall/wood/metal). For walls, apply 1-2 coats of Silk or WeatherCoat emulsion (for interior/exterior walls) as a base coat in your desired color. Allow each coat to dry for at least 6-8 hours before applying the next coat. This colored base coat will serve as the background for your metallic design effects.

3. Design Metallica Preparation

Stir Silk Illusions Design Metallica thoroughly before use. Strain the paint to remove any lumps. Tint with Berger colorants only to achieve your desired metallic shade from the Berger shade card. Select your design pattern and gather the appropriate application tools (combs, spatulas, sponges, specialty design tools, etc.).

4. Pattern Application Technique

Apply Design Metallica using your chosen tool and technique:

Combing: Use combing tools to create linear or wavy patterns by dragging through the wet paint.

Spatula Effects: Apply with a steel trowel or spatula to create textured, dimensional patterns with metallic highlights.

Sponging: Dab or roll sponges to create mottled, organic textural effects with shimmering metallic accents.

Weaving: Create interlaced, fabric-like patterns using specialized weaving tools or techniques.

Other Special Effects: Use appropriate tools to create Autumn, Crush, Twirl, Flora, Nova, Wi-Fi, Strings, Trance, or Radiant Glow effects as desired.

Important: Work in manageable segments for large wall applications. The slow-drying formula provides extended working time, but complete each segment before moving to ensure pattern consistency.

5. Pattern Refinement and Detailing

While the paint is still workable (within the extended open time), refine your patterns, adjust depths, and perfect the design. The formulation allows tools to move smoothly, retaining the created patterns. Ensure uniform application of the metallic effect throughout the design area.

6. Drying and Curing

Allow the Design Metallica coat to dry completely (minimum 6-8 hours) before touching or applying additional layers if needed. Ensure environmental conditions such as temperature (above 10°C) and humidity are suitable during application and drying. Drying times may vary based on weather conditions.

7. Optional Top Coat (For Certain Designs)

For some Vintage Finish designs or additional protection, Silk Illusions Design Metallica can be used as a top coat over other base finishes to achieve the desired metallic designer look.

8. Safety and Maintenance

Keep containers tightly closed in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Keep out of reach of children and away from foodstuff. In case of contact with eyes, wash immediately with plenty of water and seek medical advice. Do not apply when ambient temperature is below 10°C. Clean application tools immediately after use with water.
